Ms. Silvia Araneda Burwell, LPC worked for 20 years with immigrant families in a school system with over 30% Hispanic immigrant students in the greater Washington DC area. She graduated from the Catholic University of Chile as a clinical psychologist and, coming to the USA, she received her master’s degree as a school psychologist from the University of Washington in Seattle.
Ms. Burwell is a regular member of the following professional organizations: National Latina/o Psychological Association and Interamerican Society of Psychology/Sociedad Interamericana de Psicología
She has shared her roadmap for counseling the reunited immigrant family with pupil personnel professionals, mental health therapists, child welfare workers and teachers, among others. In efforts to reach more families she granted Spanish radio and Spanish television interviews. She is currently retired and working part-time in her private practice in Alexandria, VA and with the employees of the Organization of American States. This blog contains excerpts from a book she is currently writing under the same title.
